Noran N Hairi serves as Deputy Dean for Research at Universiti Malaya's Faculty of Medicine and Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health. Medically trained at UM, she worked in Malaysia’s Ministry of Health, earned MPH degrees with distinction from UM, and a PhD from the University of Sydney. Her expertise lies in ageing epidemiology, emphasizing sarcopenia, frailty, elder abuse, neglect, and financial mistreatment. She founded the Prevent Elder Abuse and Neglect Initiative (PEACE), a multidisciplinary effort involving training, awareness campaigns, and policy advocacy to strengthen elder protection. PEACE 1.0 identified financial exploitation as the top abuse form, leading to PEACE 2.0 with Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) under Bank Negara Malaysia. PEACE 3.0 collaborates with WHO on abuse assessment tools. With extensive publications and supervision of over 80 postgraduates, Dr. Noran has led as Dean (Health and Wellbeing Research Cluster), Research Cluster Chair, and Head of Julius Centre UM and Centre for Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Practice. A Member of MPPWEN and Fellow of the UK Faculty of Public Health, she drives policy, combats discrimination, and fosters inclusion for older adults through research, education, and leadership.
