PROF. DR. NIRMALA A/P BHOO PATHY

Professor Nirmala Bhoo-Pathy is a public health physician and epidemiologist with a distinguished career dedicated to advancing cancer care systems and improving life after cancer. Notably, Bhoo-Pathy's policy advocacy support evidence-based strategies to bridge critical gaps in cancer care, particularly across low- and middle-income countries. Her research spans cancer prognosis, treatment access, survivorship, financial toxicity and cancer policy, with a strong emphasis on what life after cancer looks like for patients and families especially in low- and middle-income countries. Bhoo Pathy also serves as Commissioner on several high-profile Lancet Commissions including the Commissions on Women, Power and Cancer, the Human Crisis in Cancer, Cancer Genomics, and Cancer and Health Systems. Through these platforms, she works with global partners to shape how countries design cancer services, protect patients from financial catastrophe and make cancer care more equitable. Nirmala Bhoo Pathy has been featured by Tatler as one of “Asia’s Most Influential”, joining a distinguished cohort of prominent business tycoons, clinicians and entertainers who are shaping society across diverse sectors. As an educator, she inspires undergraduate medical students and postgraduates to view public health as a transformative discipline that extends beyond illness, fostering solutions that enhance the well-being of entire populations.
