M.Z.Kufian is a researcher at the Centre for Ionics, Universiti Malaya (C.I.U.M.), focusing on battery technology and energy storage. Over the years, he has been involved in setting up the Battery Testing Laboratory at C.I.U.M, which supports both research activities and collaborations with industry partners. One of the areas he continues to explore is Battery Safety Physics, particularly in developing diagnostic approaches and material-level evaluations that help reduce battery risks and support compliance with international standards such as IEC 62133 and UN38.3. To enhance his knowledge and technical skills, M.Z.Kufian has participated in several international training programs, including a battery technology workshop in Hamburg, Germany, organized by EL-Cell GmbH and advanced electrospinning training under Prof. Dr. Natarajan at IIT Madras, India. These opportunities have been valuable in helping him contribute more effectively to the field. In 2022, he was appointed a Visiting Professor at the Namangan Institute of Engineering and Technology in Uzbekistan, where he participated in staff exchanges and supported collaborative research efforts. M.Z.Kufian has also collaborated with local universities and companies on research related to graphene-based batteries, lithium-ion battery electrodes, and supercapacitor materials. In 2024, he initiated a STEMeNERGY program to introduce school students, primarily in underserved areas, to battery science through hands-on learning. In his daily work, he also mentors students and supports fellow researchers in battery design, testing, and material selection. While his contributions are mostly behind the scenes, he remains committed to advancing clean energy research, educational outreach, and practical innovation in energy storage.
