Rizal teaches asset maintenance, facilities, and project management within the Faculty of Built Environment, Universiti of Malaya. His publications span technical reports, books, chapters, and peer-reviewed journals, focusing on workplace wellbeing, and sustainable facility management. He also serves as an external assessor and examiner for institutions such as UTM, UiTM, and the Open University. Actively engaged in consultancies, editorial boards, journal reviews, and industry forums and studies. Currently the represents the university in various project teams and committees, such as the Construction Industry Development Board, Deputy Secretary at the Malaysian Association of Facility Management, the National Mirror Committee (NMC), international working groups at the ISO/TC 267 - the facility management systems standard development.
