Dr. Lee Ching Shya holds dual PhDs in Chemical Engineering from the Universiti Malaya (UM), Malaysia, and the École Nationale Supérieure des Ingénieurs en Arts Chimiques et Technologiques (ENSIACET) in Toulouse, France. In 2009, she began her research journey at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Universiti Malaya, focusing on renewable energy, biomass, and electrochemistry. Registered as a Chemist (ChM) with the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM), she also serves as a Committee Member for its Division of Green & Sustainable Chemistry (DGSC). She is currently an Associate Member for Nanotechnology & Catalysis Research Centre (NANOCAT). In 2018, she joined the Universiti Malaya Centre of Innovation and Enterprise (UMCIE), the university's technology transfer office, as the Technology Transfer Manager. She is currently a Registered Patent Agent Malaysia (MYA/2024/0074) and Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP). Beyond her primary roles, Dr. Lee Ching Shya is the Treasurer of the Licensing Executive Society Malaysia (LESM), a member of the Innovation and Technology Managers Association Malaysia (ITMA), and a founding member of the Health & Wellness I-Connect Program. She actively participates as a working committee member in the Licensing Executive Society International (LESI) Technology Transfer Committee and Innovation and Technology Managers Association Malaysia (ITMA) Technology Transfer Training Committee. Additionally, she is a certified trainer (Trainer ID: 19427) by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRDC). Her current responsibilities include overseeing the university's intellectual property, guiding IP commercialization, and fostering industry-academia collaborations. A passionate advocate for innovation, her recent initiative involves supporting the establishment of startups based on the university's groundbreaking discoveries. To date, she has achieved remarkable milestones, including closing more than 30 IP licensing and outright purchases, mentoring over 28 university-based startups, and facilitating more than 50 industry-academia partnerships.
