ASSOCIATE PROF. IR. TS. DR. LAI KHIN WEE

(Biomedical Engineering)
Dr. Lai received his Ph.D. from UTM and TU Ilmenau under the DAAD Sandwich Programme and was awarded the Chancellor Award by the Queen of Johor. He is currently Associate Professor at Universiti Malaya and CTO of BioSight Sdn Bhd,spin-off company. His research focuses on AI-driven diagnostics and biomedical devices, with innovations like OsteoKneeKit™ and Scoltech™ now in commercialization. He has secured over RM4-5 million in research funding, published 140+ WoS/Scopus papers (h-index 22), and holds 17 patents/IPs. Dr. Lai has led over 35 funded projects and received 30+ awards, including Tokoh Muda Kejuruteraan Negara (BEM 2022), Anugerah Penyelidik Muda Cemerlang UM 2024, IEM Young Engineer Award 2021, IEEE-EMBS Early Career Award 2021, and the ACU Fellowship (UK). His accolades also include top prizes at ITEX, MTE, PECIPTA, Singapore, Taiwan and Brunei. He is a PEPC engineer with BEM, Fellow of IEM and Engineers Australia, Chartered Engineer (UK/Aus), and Senior Member of IEEE. He serves as Associate Editor of IEEE Access and IET Image Processing, has supervised 67 postgraduates, and contributes actively as an EAC and ETAC panel evaluator for BEM and MBOT in national accreditation and engineering education development.
