PROF. DR. CHAN KOK GAN

PhD
Prof. Dr. Chan Kok Gan is a distinguished interdisciplinary microbiologist. He studies microbial genomics, quorum sensing, quorum quenching, genome biology, biosafety law, intellectual property law. He is Fellow of Academy of Sciences Malaysia (2017).  Prof. Chan holds double degrees in microbiology and law & PhD in Molecular Microbiology. He publishes 490 WoS–indexed publications, including premier journals such as Nature (>27,300 citations, h-index 83). He received Malaysia Toray Science Foundation Award, JSPS Award, >15 French Fellowships, UK Prime Minister's I2 Award, listed for 6 years by Stanford University World’s Top 2% Scientists (2020–2025) in both “Career” & “Current Year” categories. He is ranked the World’s Top 0.1% Scientists by ScholarGPS; First in “quorum quenching”, “multidrug resistant pathogens” , “genome ”by Google Scholar. He ranks as First Microbiologist in Malaysia by Research.com. A novel bacterial genus and species, Chania multitudinisentens gen. nov., sp. nov., was named in his honour. Prof Chan is the leading expert in biosafety law, NGS, multi-OMICs (genome, transcriptome, methylome, microbiome, plasmidome, resistome, virome, metagenome, metabolome).
