Dr. Kishneth Palaniveloo is a marine scientist whose career spans marine ecology, chemical ecology, biotechnology, and environmental molecular sciences. He has a B.Sc. in Marine Science at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), a Master’s degree in Fermentation Biochemistry and a PhD in the Advancement of Biodiversity, specializing in marine ecological chemistry. His doctoral work focused on isolating and characterizing secondary metabolites from marine resources. Since 2017, he has served at the Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences (IOES), Universiti Malaya, where he is now Head of the Marine Biotechnology Unit. His research interests include soft coral chemotaxonomy, algal metabolites, microbial community analysis, and mangrove carbon dynamics. He has secured around RM5 million in research funding, published 25 ISI-indexed papers, and actively supervises postgraduate students. Dr. Kishneth is a member of the Malaysian Society of Marine Sciences (MSMS), the International Association for Biological Oceanography, Malaysian Society of Natural Products and an associate to the Centre for Natural Products Research and Drug Discovery (CENAR) of Universiti Malaya. He hopes to continue advancing research and teaching to advance the frontiers of marine science, natural product chemistry, and ecosystem sustainability in line with national and university vision for scientific growth and marine resource management.
