Dr. Karthikayini Krishnasamy is a dedicated nursing academic and healthcare leader with over 29 years of experience in clinical practice, hospital management, quality improvement, and higher education. She is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Nursing Science, University of Malaya, and is recognized nationally and internationally for her work in patient safety, infection control, clinical nutrition, and oncology nursing. She holds a PhD in Hospital Quality Management (Patient Safety) and postgraduate qualifications in oncology nursing and healthcare management. Dr. Karthikayini served as Coordinator in the Quality Department at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), where she led initiatives in clinical governance, patient safety, and continuous quality improvement. She received formal training as a Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) trainer from Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality. She also contributed to developing UMMC’s electronic medical record modules on fall prevention, NEWS, and delirium assessment. Her research focuses on patient safety culture, fall prevention, and interprofessional collaboration. She has presented widely and published in journals such as Age and Ageing. A recipient of several awards, she serves on national patient safety committees and remains committed to advancing healthcare quality in Malaysia and beyond.
