Dr. Karthikayini Krishnasamy is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Nursing, Universiti Malaya, with over 30 years of experience in clinical practice, healthcare management, quality improvement, and higher education. She holds a PhD in Hospital Quality Management (Patient Safety) from Universiti Malaya and advanced qualifications in oncology nursing and healthcare management. Formerly the Coordinator of the Quality Department at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), she led initiatives in clinical governance, patient safety, and quality improvement. Trained as a Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) trainer by Johns Hopkins Medicine, her expertise includes Continuous Quality Improvement, Clinical Risk Management, and Patient Safety. Dr. Karthikayini has broad clinical experience across multiple specialties and contributed to developing UMMC’s electronic medical record systems, including modules for fall prevention, delirium assessment, and the National Early Warning Score (NEWS). She collaborates with the Asian Society for Quality in Health Care (ASQua) and the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) on clinical projects related to patient safety and quality of care. Her research focuses on patient safety culture, fall prevention, and medication safety in older adults, with publications in leading journals. Recognized with the Hospital Management Asia Award for Financial Excellence (2024) and the Venus International Award for Excellence in Oncology Nursing, she continues to advance nursing practice and healthcare quality in Malaysia and the region.
