Dr. Haezreena is a Criminologist and Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya, with extensive experience in civil and criminal litigation since being called to the Malaysian Bar in 1997. Her research focuses on human trafficking, incarceration, gender and women's rights, terrorism, and serious crimes. In 2022, she was awarded a Grant by the U.S. Embassy of Kuala Lumpur to conduct capacity-building training for law enforcement officials and Protection Officers on human trafficking. Her contribution to Malaysia's Tier 2 upgrade in the U.S. Trafficking in Persons Report was recognised by the Minister of Home Affairs in 2024. She received a Grant from ESIWA/EU to interview returnees and ex-detainees from Syria and Afghanistan and was appointed by the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) to evaluate two former Guantanamo Bay detainees linked to the Bali and Jakarta Bombings (2002/2003), producing an assessment report for the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA). With thousands of hours of fieldwork, she has interviewed 70 female prisoners, 40 trafficked victims, and returnees from conflict zones. She currently serves as an expert witness in terrorism-related cases and the GISBH case.
