Dr. Haezreena Begum Abdul Hamid is a Criminologist, Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya, and Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya. Internationally recognised for her expertise in criminal justice, human trafficking, terrorism, and criminology, she serves as an Expert to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Counter-Terrorism and Human Trafficking. Her work bridges academia, policy, and practice through extensive empirical research and legal reform initiatives. She has secured competitive grants from the United States Embassy, the European Union (ESIWA), the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia, and the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU), Prime Minister's Department. She currently serves as Head Researcher and Committee Member of Malaysia's Criminal Law Reform Committee, leading research on reforms to the Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code, and Evidence Act 1950. Dr. Haezreena has conducted extensive fieldwork involving women prisoners, survivors of human trafficking, terrorism returnees, and former detainees, generating one of Malaysia's most comprehensive qualitative datasets in these fields. Her scholarship has informed criminal justice reform, counter-terrorism policy, and victim-centred approaches to human trafficking. She has authored influential books and scholarly publications that support law reform, policy development, and professional practice, earning national recognition for excellence in teaching, research, and public service.
