Dr. Anand Ramanathan is a Senior Lecturer and Clinical Specialist in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya. He earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Saveetha Dental College, The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, India (2002), and a Master of Dental Surgery in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology from Rajah Muthiah Dental College, Annamalai University (2009). He migrated to Malaysia in 2009, completing his spouse program at Universiti Malaya and obtaining his practising license in 2011. Dr. Ramanathan is actively engaged in teaching, curriculum development, and research. He has served as module head for courses on oral malignancy, potentially malignant disorders, and tumours of the jaws, and as undergraduate coordinator for oral pathology and oral medicine. He is also a trainer for OralDetect, a program for early detection of oral cancer and precancer, successfully conducted in Malaysia, India, Nepal, Cambodia, and Indonesia. An adjunct faculty member at several regional institutions, he has published 81 peer-reviewed papers with a h-index of 18 and supervised many postgraduate students. His contributions earned him the VIHA Outstanding Researcher Award (2020) and Universiti Malaya’s Certificate of Excellent Service (2021). His research interests include oral cancer, OPMDs, immunohistochemistry, oncoimmunology, and adjunct diagnostics.
