DR. PHANG KEAN CHANG

Doctor of Philosophy (Pathology)
Dr. Phang is a clinical scientist, academician, and bioethicist who serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya. He holds a PhD in Pathology, Master’s degrees in Health Research Ethics and Medical Sciences (Pathology), reflecting a multidisciplinary career bridging molecular medicine, ethics & research leadership. As Head of the Medical Research Ethics Unit (MREU) at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, he has strengthened ethics review systems, led capacity-building programmes for researchers and reviewers, played a key role in hosting the 23rd FERCAP International Conference. In his institutional role as UMHealth Coordinator under the Associate Vice Chancellor’s Office, he contributes to strategic health initiatives across five key university health entities. Dr. Phang’s research interests span molecular diagnostics, digital pathology, cancer immunotherapy, and bioethics. He has also co-authored policy work at the national level. His professional appointments include Chartered Scientist (UK RSB), GHBN Senior Research Fellow, SEABION steering committee member, and YSN–Academy of Sciences Malaysia member, alongside multiple awards and fellowships.
