Tan Chia Kwang holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia. He began his career as an engineer at Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), where he was seconded to TNB Research Sdn Bhd for three years, involving in various research and development initiatives as well as forensic analysis of equipment failure. Currently, He serves as a Senior Lecturer at the UM Power Energy Dedicated Advanced Centre (UMPEDAC), University of Malaya. His research interests span a broad range of topics including power system analysis, power system protection systems, smart grids, rural electrification, life cycle assessment (LCA), and circular economy. He is actively engaged in various engineering consultancy projects, particularly power system studies for large-scale solar (LSS) farm and electrical designs for medium voltage distribution systems. Notable clients include Petronas, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), CIMB Bank and MRCB George Kent Sdn Bhd. He is also involved in the integration of digitalization and artificial intelligence technologies within the energy sector, through consultancy projects with TNB, being the Malaysia's main power utility company. His commitment to social impact is reflected in his participation in multiple rural electrification projects aimed at improving energy access for underserved communities across the country. In addition, he currently serves as the Coordinator for the Master of Renewable Energy program at the University of Malaya.
