Dr. Cindy Teh Shuan Ju, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, is a leading researcher in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Malaysia. Her multidisciplinary research, supported by over RM10 million in funding and over 130 publications, explores molecular resistance mechanisms, microbiome disruption by antibiotics, and psychosocial factors influencing hand hygiene and transmission of multidrug-resistant organisms in hospitals. Committed to science communication, she authored AMR Diary and leads outreach programmes to educate schoolchildren on AMR from a young age. Her leadership includes serving as Chairperson of the Institutional Biosafety and Biosecurity Committee (IBBC), Coordinator of the Infra Microbiology Laboratory Unit, and panel assesor for accreditation in the University. At the national level, Dr. Teh contributes to policy as a member of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC) committee and provides expert consultation on ISO 17025 and biosafety systems. She also serves as an Academic Editor for PeerJ. Dr. Teh’s contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including the L’Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science Fellowship (2021), the MSIDC-Institut Mérieux Young Researcher Award (2018), and several innovation medals. She is a member of YSN-ASM since 2018. As a dedicated mentor, she has successfully supervised 8 PhD and 16 Master’s students.
