Charity Lee is Senior Lecturer and Deputy Dean (Research and Innovation) at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, Universiti Malaya. A discourse and narrative analyst, she studies how language decides who is heard and who is spoken for in the lives of migrant, stateless and other marginalised communities. Her research runs across three connected strands: forced migration and statelessness in Malaysia and the region; health communication, spanning doctor–patient consultations, organ donation campaigns and online depression narratives; and, more recently, participatory and arts-based methods as a means of decolonising and democratising research with vulnerable groups. She is lead author of Analysing Forced Migration: A Discourse-informed Approach (Springer, 2026) and co-editor of Discursive Approaches to Politics: Legitimizing Governance (Springer, 2022), and has published in Sociological Research Online; Discourse & Society; Discourse, Context and Media; Emotion, Space and Society; Patient Education and Counseling; and the International Journal of Medical Informatics, among others. She was Principal Investigator of the Erasmus+ project Sustainable Development Goals in Journalism Reporting, and collaborates with partners in Europe, China and Southeast Asia. She teaches German linguistics at undergraduate level and discourse analysis at postgraduate level, and welcomes supervision enquiries in forced migration, health communication, narrative analysis, participatory action research and arts-based methods.
