Dr. Aslina Pahrudin Arrozi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Molecular Medicine, Universiti Malaya. She holds a BSc and Master’s in Medical Science from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and earned her PhD from Shiga University of Medical Science, Japan, as a MEXT Scholar, where she subsequently served as an Assistant Professor before joining Universiti Malaya in 2023. Her research specializes in the molecular pathology of neurodegeneration and natural product-based neurotherapeutics. She evaluates natural bioactives including Zingiber rhizome extracts, vitamin E isomers (tocopherols and tocotrienols), and bioactive peptides to target pathological drivers of neurodegeneration (Alzheimer’s disease and related tauopathies). Specifically, her work investigates how these agents modulate neuroinflammation, microglial activation, oxidative stress, mitochondrial bioenergetic failure, and amyloid-beta and tau toxicity. Grounded in biochemistry and molecular neuroscience, her expertise integrates advanced in vitro modeling, mitochondrial bioenergetics, cellular stress pathways (TXNIP and NF-kB signaling), and functional neuro-assessments like Electroencephalography (EEG). By mapping the interplay between systemic metabolic signals, neuroinflammatory cascades, and organelle dysfunction, her lab provides a robust platform to discover neuroprotective interventions and diagnostic biomarkers. Dr. Aslina actively collaborates with natural product chemists, bioengineers, data scientists, and clinicians to translate biochemical insights into targeted neurotherapeutic strategies for age-related disorders and lifespan cognitive health.
