Professor Dr Anand Sanmugam is Deputy Dean (Postgraduate), Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, and a Consultant Paediatric and Neonatal Surgeon with subspecialty expertise in minimally invasive surgery in children. He graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2004, became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in 2011, and completed paediatric surgical training through the Master of Paediatric Surgery at Universiti Malaya, followed by a Clinical Fellowship at Perth Children's Hospital, Western Australia. He holds a Master of Medical Education with Distinction.Nationally, he is Co-Chair of the National Postgraduate Medical Curriculum Quality Assurance and Evaluation Committee, Chair of the MMC Specialty Subcommittee for Paediatric Surgery, a core author of the National Postgraduate Medical Curriculum for Paediatric Surgery and a member of the Paediatric Surgery Specialty Conjoined Board. Internationally, he chairs the Education Working Group of the Global Initiative for Children's Surgery and serves as Director at Large on its board, leading a multilingual global needs assessment to direct surgical education capacity where it is most needed. His research spans patient-reported outcomes, medical education innovation, and translational tissue engineering. He is Principal Investigator of the UMHealth AI-Enhanced Virtual Patient Initiative.
