Dr. Ong obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Universiti Malaya in 2013 and has been serving at UM since then. His expertise spans vibration analysis, modal analysis, rotor dynamics, virtual instrumentation, signal processing, predictive maintenance, fault diagnostics, artificial intelligence, and computational mechanics. With extensive industrial experience in machinery vibration projects since 2008, Dr. Ong has served as a Technical Consultant for several local companies, providing advanced machinery diagnostics, project planning, and management to ensure safe and efficient project execution. He is also a certified trainer and assessor for the Vibration Practitioner/Specialist Certification Program (ISO 18436) under the Institute of Materials, Malaysia (IMM). His academic contributions extend internationally, as he currently serves as a Visiting Research Professor at Bournemouth University, UK, until 2026. In 2026, he was appointed as Visiting Professor at Ningbo Polytechnic University, China until 2031. At Universiti Malaya, Dr. Ong is the Deputy Dean of Higher Degrees at the Faculty of Engineering, overseeing postgraduate studies affairs. Previously, he was the Deputy Director of the Centre for Research in Industry 4.0 (CRI), a strategic initiative bridging academia and industry in response to the government’s Industry 4.0 agenda.
