Dr. Yong Adilah Binti Shamsul Harumain is a senior lecturer in Urban and Regional Planning at the Faculty of Built Environment, University Malaya. An expert in transportation planning and mobility, she collaborates internationally with Indonesia, Japan, and Korea. She is the Coordinator of the Dual PhD Program and previously led the Master’s by Research program. She also serves as Deputy Head of the Centre for Sustainable Planning & Real Estate and the Smart Mobility Centre of Excellence. Dr. Yong supervises ten PhD students on topics including women’s mobility, safe city initiatives, and urban design. Appointed to the hearing committee for the Kuala Lumpur Draft Local Plan (PTKL 2040), she actively influences urban policy. She pioneered the Machinoeki (Hentian Komuniti) concept in Taiping, earning the Sumitomo Foundation Research Grant twice. Her AHRC UKRI grant supported research on women’s mobility with global partners. She engages with policymakers, including the Ministry of Federal Territories and Parliament, on flood mitigation and transportation. She holds numerous research grants, collaborates with universities worldwide, and contributes to professional networks. A dedicated researcher and academic leader, Dr. Yong integrates research, teaching, and community engagement to drive sustainable urban development.
