I graduated from the University of Dundee Medical School, UK (MBChB) in 2003, and completed a doctorate degree (MD) in 2011 from the University of Liverpool, UK with the research thesis in tumor microenvironment and cellular interaction in colorectal cancer. I have completed the FRCS exam (RCS Edinburgh) in General Surgery and Colorectal Surgery in 2015, and completed the higher specialist training in the UK with Certificate of Completion of Training awarded in 2016. I have had several publications in scientific/medical journals and book chapter over the years.
Further on, I underwent an advanced fellowship in recurrent and advanced colorectal cancer, as well as complex inflammatory bowel disease and abdominal wall reconstruction in the John Goligher Colorectal Unit, St James University Hospital, Leeds. I was then appointed as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon in the unit having had completed the fellowship. During the above training, I have developed specialist interest in laparoscopic surgery, surgery for pelvic floor dysfunction and benign coloproctology, surgery for low rectal cancer, transanal microsurgery (TAMIS), transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME), cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) for peritoneal surface malignancy. I then relocated back to Malaysia and is currently a lecturer and consultant general and colorectal surgeon in the University of Malaya Medical Centre. With my previous training and experience, I wish to pursue my passion in colorectal cancer research, establishing my clinical practice in colorectal diseases, and teaching and training the young colorectal surgeons in Malaysia.
