BIOGRAPHY

STEFANIE PILLAI is an Associate Professor at the Department of English Language, Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, University of Malaya. Her areas of research interest include acoustic phonetics, the segmental and prosodic features of spoken Malaysian English, and the documentation of Malaccan Portuguese Creole. She is a recipient of the Commonwealth Split-Site PhD Scholarship (2001), the Endangered Languages Documentation Project Grant from SOAS (2011), and is the 2013 Ian Gordon Fellow at Victoria University Wellington. Her papers have been published in books by Mouton de Gruyter, Peter Lang, Amsterdam University Press, Multilingual Matters and Cambridge Scholars. Her articles have also appeared in journals such as Language & Communication, Higher Education, World Englishes, Multilingua, Language & Linguistics and PCSiL. Stefanie also sits on the main and evaluation committee for the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia's Higher Institutions' Centers of Excellence (HICoE). She is the Chief Editor of the Malaysian Journal of ELT Research and sits on the Editorial Board/Committee of Asia TEFL Journal, 3L: The Southeast Asian Journal of English Language Studies and Asian EFL Journal, among others. Stefanie is currently the Director of the Community and Industry Relations Centre at UM.
