BIOGRAPHY

Ahmed Sarhan graduated with a PhD. in Precision Engineering Department, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan. During his work in Japan for around 6 years, he gained an experience in the field of intelligent manufacturing processes. He was working with the Intelligent Numerical Control (INC) Research Consortium with multiple industrial and academic partners. Industrial partners includes; OKK Corp, Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., Heidenhein Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric Corp., Mori Seiki Co., Ltd., Yasuda Kogyo Co., Ltd., and Yamazaki Mazak Corp. However, academic partners includes; The University of Shiga Prefecture (Professor Heisaburo Nakagawa), Niigata University (Professor Hiroyasu Iwabe) and Kyoto University (Professor Atsushi Matsubara). He was developed an intelligent spindle for CNC machine tool with displacement and thermal sensors to monitor the spindle characteristics and machining process simultaneously to protect spindle from damages at higher speed spindles.

In August 2009, he joined University of Malaya (UM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Throughout his engineering career, he have completed several major research projects funded by the public and private sectors, and he have also undertaken various consulting assignments in the field of machining (higher accuracy and higher productivity machining technologies) and cutting tool technology (metal cutting operations using multiple sensors, data acquisition, and signal processing technology). He has published more than seventy five technical papers in reputable journals and conferences. He also a reviewer for many Master and PhD thesis, some reputable engineering journals and refereed international conferences.
